Interlibrary Loans
Newton County Library provides interlibrary loan materials free of charge to its patrons. The service is intended to obtain materials for library users that are not part of the library's holdings and that we do not want to buy for our collection. The following are guidelines for using the interlibrary loan system:
Borrowers must have a Newton County Library card to request items through interlibrary loan.
The interlibrary loan service at the Newton County Library does not provide textbooks for students at any level of schooling.
The library cannot guarantee when an item may be sent to us from another library. On an average, books arrive at our library from 2 weeks to 1 month after the request.
The loaning library determines whether or not they wish to fulfill a request. They may refuse to send any material in their library. Most libraries will not lend genealogy materials, materials that have been published within the last 6 months, or any other material that is frequently used by their patrons.
The loaning library determines the date the item is due back in their library. Most libraries will loan material for a period of 2 to 3 weeks. The decision to renew items and for what period of time is also up to the loaning library. Patrons should request renewal at least 3 days in advance of the due date to give the loaning library time to respond to the renewal request.
The Newton County Library expects patrons to return materials by the due date written on the strap attached to the item. Fines for overdue interlibrary loan items are $5.00 for the first day and $.50 each additional day.
