Wireless Internet Policy
Newton County Library offers wireless "WiFi" access to the internet during library hours. In order to use the wireless access in the library, you must abide by all of the policies established by the Library Board of Trustees. Users who do not follow these policies will not be permitted to use the library's Internet access.
Users may bring their own wireless-enabled laptop computer or other wireless device to the library. The library does not provide wireless cards. Most WiFi equipment will be compatible, but the library does not guarantee compatibility with the library's network.
Wireless users will not be able to print using the library's printers.
Listening to audio or communicating via computer so that others can hear you is not allowed. Library headphones may be borrowed for use with audio while in the library.
The library staff is not responsible for loss or damage to unattended laptop computers or other wireless devices and does not provide storage space for such equipment.
The library Internet service may not be used for illegal or unethical activity including obscene materials as defined in Arkansas Code 5-68-501.
Library staff can assist users in using the Internet to locate information. Not all Internet information is accurate, complete, or current and the library is not responsible for its content.
The library staff cannot provide extended training or technical support for Internet users, nor can the library phone line be used for such purposes. Library staff cannot assist customers in setting up, configuring, or troubleshooting their wireless computers and other devices.
The wireless network is not encrypted so other wireless users may intercept any information you send or receive using the wireless network. The library recommends that you do not enter credit card numbers, passwords or other personally identifiable information.
Other wireless users may be able to view or change files on your computer. The library recommends that you install and use anti-virus software, firewall software and current security patches or upgrades on your computer.
Users of the library's wireless network do so entirely at their own risk.
